Minister for Men and Boys

The APPG agreed to support the creation of a Minister for Men and Boys at its meeting in November 2023. The remit of such a minister would be to focus on issues of male disadvantage such as those covered in our reports.

Like Women and Girls, Men and Boys are experiencing many issues and disadvantages in the UK specific to their gender.

Suicide, Homelessness, Mental Health, Parental Rights, Education, Unemployment, Domestic, Abuse, Imprisonment, Addiction, Health, Workplace Safety, Gender Based Discrimination.

A full list of disadvantages can be found under the ‘Imbalances’ tab on this website.

Independently, there is a petition calling for a Minister for Men and Boys. Please add your name and invite others to do so.

This will give a real boost in Parliament, showing public support for the idea.

A list of ‘Top Ten’ male disadvantages is here.

There is, thankfully, a specific focus on the needs of women and girls, but no specific strategy for Men and Boys despite men being the majority affected in many of these areas.

The 2010 Equality Act should, in theory, promote equality and address disadvantages certain groups face (age, disability, race, religion, sex and sexual orientation,…). Unfortunately, men&boys’ issues are largely excluded from equalities debates.

A Minister for Men and Boys would help ensure appropriate representation.
