Elections. The following were elected by show of hands:
- Election of officers.
- Chair: Mark Jenkinson MP Agreed
- Vice-chairs: Lord Fred Ponsonby; Baroness Margaret Eaton; Ben Bradley MP; Nick Fletcher. Agreed
- Election of secretariat: Mike Bell and Christopher Badley, Equi-law UK and Mark Brooks OBE, Men’s Well-being Policy Adviser. Support in kind. No fee charged. Agreed
- Remit (revised): Agreed ‘To raise awareness of disadvantages and poor outcomes faced by men and boys in education, mental and physical health and law; to influence attitudes, role models, policy and legislation that will lead to positive differences to their well-being and lives.‘
- Approach: Agreed. The APPG will call witnesses, take evidence, produce reports with recommendations and communicate the result.
- Agreed: the APPG will work to ensure that membership is drawn widely across Parliament and that there is diversity among those called to give evidence.
- First action: Create a narrative: ‘What is it like to be a boy, today?’
A novel approach which has not been done yet. Document to cover the main headings: family/home, school, friends/gangs, health. Evidence gathering by consulting experts and personal testimony.
Mike Bell to draft and initially develop with Claire Fox and Ben Bradley. - Potential second action. Develop Men’s Health Strategy.
